Colorado Marital Agreements

September 14th, 2021

From 1 July 2014, a new law on marriage contracts will enter into force, which aims above all, at the legislative level, to offer better protection to unpresented parties. The new statute, entitled Uniforme Premarital and Marital Agreements Act, Colo. Rev. Stat. ยงยง14-2-301 et seq. Colorado`s New Act is the adapted version of the Uniform Premarital and Marital Agreement Act. The Colorado Marital Agreement Act, which is found in sections 14-2-301 to 14-2-313 of the Colorado Revised Statutes, outlines important aspects of conjugal agreements in Colorado, such as the applicability and effective date of the agreement. The use of marriage and marriage agreements continues to increase for all types of couples, as these agreements can be as broad or as narrow as the parties wish. For young couples, such agreements may be the best way to ensure that current and future interests in gifts, estates, and trust interests are protected and remain separated. . . .
